Week 4 - Chaos, tacos and a 1kg drop
Updated: Aug 28
Monday was the first week back to normal after two public holidays the previous two weeks, and honestly it felt like we were finally getting back into routine.
It was my day off with Arlo, so we caught up with a friend for a tea.
Arlo then refused his nap, so we played outside instead. Classic baby life.

Tuesday I did not get up for the gym. I hit snooze and rolled over like it was an out of body experience. I swear I had no control over it đ
Anyway, I also started stressing early because this Saturday coming up we have a birthday at a Mexican restaurant and it is meant to be all-you-can-eat tacos and drinks. I woke up to a 250g gain and instantly thought, âshit, what do I do?â I looked up the terms and conditions, and it said everyone at the table had to participate. I knew I had to be smart because I also canât calorie bank other days or Iâll be too hungry. Anyway, that will be a Saturday problem.
I found my skinny tub in the garage and took heaps of before photos in the clothes. These fit pre-baby, so we have goals. I canât wait to try them on again in a few months. Do you have a âskinny tubâ?

After my little gain, I woke up Wednesday to a new low on the scale. I also brought oats back into my meal plan. I used to have them every single day on my last weight loss journey and honestly, I forgot how delicious they are. This time Iâve added a little bit of brown sugar after seeing someone do it on Instagram and wow, elite.

Side note, does anyone else feel like they waste more food now theyâre on a fat loss journey?
Not in the sense of buying things you donât eat, but more like not eating your kidsâ scraps anymore. Because that was me. Half a piece of toast here, a mouthful of spaghetti there, all because I didnât want it wasted. Now I chuck it in the bin and it hurts my heart because I hate wasting money and food. Does anyone have any tips? Do I just keep some jam toast and warm it up later for him? Haha.

Wednesday night was soccer photos, then Thursday morning I decided I would gym later because I had the time. The baby and my eldest started the day at 4:20am though, so my sleep-in didnât happen anyway.

I ended up training at 8:30am, then Arlo had an ear, nose and throat specialist appointment at 10:30am. I quickly meal prepped before we left and my rice bag broke everywhere. I actually left it and Jason cleaned it up for me and put it in a container when he got home after work, how cute!

Verdict from the appointment: grommets are going in and adenoids are coming out.
Arlo then went to daycare, and I was off to watch Nola at her tackle carnival (I took the day off work knowing it was chaos going here and there!). She was literally the only girl on her school team. Bless her. So proud.

Do you know what is hilarious? Jason called me on Thursday and said âhappy anniversaryâ and we had both completely forgotten. Busy life, hey đ I had to go to the post office anyway because I sell a lot of second-hand clothes on Depop, so I grabbed him a cute card while I was there.

Friday I woke up to a 1kg drop from Thursday. Howâs that for a loss? Still very up and down, but we take it.
Rocky had BFG dress up day, which was very cute. I actually read the school calendar back in February and pre ordered his costume and put it in the drawer at home ready â GO ME!

After school drop, I slapped on a tan and worked all day. I didnât expect any video calls, but I was doing Senate Estimates for my area and one of the guys had to call me. Sorry not sorry for sitting there in tan while working. He just laughed..
Friday night was nails and dinner at Mumâs. I made the family dinner before I left, then I finished Throne of Glass and went back to my cowboy book while I got my nails done.
Mum got me a protein pizza and we had some hang time together and watched the movie Reminders of Him. I cried like a baby at the end. Her cat also kept me warm, which was very appreciated.

Saturday was soccer, then we ditched all the kids to the Nans before heading to the taco birthday.

Turns out we didnât have to do the all-you-can-eat after all, which was such a win. I had three tacos at around 220 calories each and a couple of âskinnyâ drinks from the menu. Everyone was on the Margaritaâs! I canât do tequila. It is horrible.

The birthday boy bought us all hats, which was hilarious. I was home in bed by 6pm watching a movie.

I did go over calories for the day, but honestly it could have been a lot worse.
Sunday I woke up to another weight drop. What the heck. What a trend this week. Iâm down 1kg average, woohoo!

I went and got the older kids from my Mumâs, and Jason got Arlo from his Mum after their sleepovers and we went to footy. Nola and I are the same height now and she just turned 10. So cute, but also what is happening?!

When we got home, I was right back into my prepped meals! I tried the double choc lava cake for post lunch dessert and honestly, not a fan. Maybe it would be good with ice cream, but plain it wasnât worth the calories. I still ate it obviously, because I was not wasting it đ

I got the fire going for a nice cozy day at home. Another rainy week, so no Mount Taylor and no cardio. Damn it. I actually feel like I had all the motivation in the world at the start of the week and then ended up having none.

And to finish the weekend off, Arlo woke up from his Sunday nap with a snotty nose and a temperature. Uh oh.

Â
Alrighty, check-in time.
Week: 4
Weekly Average Steps: 7100 - oh my stars this is not the best....
Training: 3/5, I ended up hitting snooze two days!
Average Body Weight Change: -1kg, woohoo!
The things Iâm most proud of this week are:
Lots of veggies.
Navigating the taco birthday better than expected.
Getting straight back into tracking after a higher calorie day.
Honestly though, I canât think of heaps this week because it felt like my worst week so far, even though the scales moved.
The areas I need to improve next week are:
Back to the grind, 4:15am no excuses.
Set up my ski erg and start proper cardio.
Start adding the abs bonus to my workouts.
Keep adhering even if Arlo gets sick, because itâs not an excuse for me to slack.
A messy week, but still a 1kg drop. Just goes to show you donât need perfect, you need consistent enough.
