Week 12 - Prawns, Pickles & Potential

Monday was my rostered day off with Arlo.

He had a bit of a cough and a runny nose, but nothing too bad. He was fighting it off really well, but Sunday night he slept until 3am and then needed nose spray, a bottle, a nappy change and to be put back to sleep.

He already had his vaporiser on, and honestly there’s not much else you can do at that point.

So then I laid there listening to him cough for about three hours.

Some of the worst sleep for me and him, but apparently no one else in the house could hear him.

Interesting.

Once everyone was up, we had breakfast, and after I dropped the kids to school, Arlo and I watched a bit of Danny Go! on Netflix before it was nap time for him and work time for me.

As I mentioned in last week’s blog, I’m taking a deeper dive into my health at the moment, and that includes a new menu to support my cholesterol and bone health.

I know I should have done it the night before, but Monday morning I made myself a soy milk chia seed pudding and popped it in the fridge. It will normally be my breakfast, but because it wasn’t ready yet, I just switched my meals around.

I also made prawn tacos.

Soft ones.

I am not a seafood girl. Not really. There’s really not a lot I like, but prawns I can just tolerate if they’re covered in seasoning.

And of course, you have to de-poop them, which is disgusting.

But I would rather do that than eat the poop, so there we are.

It took me ages.

For the tacos I had 100g of prawns, two wraps, tomato, cucumber, light Greek yoghurt and a squeeze of lemon from our tree.

For my other meal, I had mince cooked with no oil, sweet potato mash with only salt and pepper because honestly, sweet potato does not need butter or milk, and broccoli with a drizzle of light Greek yoghurt.

Everything was meal prepped and ready for the week.

We love an organised Monday Casey.

Tuesday was busy as always.

Nola’s soccer training got cancelled because the oval was too wet, but in good news, my walking pad desk arrived.

Now, I am very lucky that I have a tradie partner because he can build anything and everything really fast. Jason had my desk built in about 20 minutes, with Arlo helping of course.

Very useful apprentice.

Now I know I had meal prep, but I also had a protein pizza in the freezer, and because Jason made homemade pizzas for everyone else, I wanted to join in.

Also, does anyone else dab the oil off their pizza?

Or is that just me being me?

On Wednesday I went in for my bloods in the morning for my Everlab results.

I had the results back by the afternoon, and in my Everlab app it says that the biological age of my blood so far is 20 years old.

Fifteen years younger.

I’ll take that, thank you very much.

It will be interesting to see what happens when I get my DEXA scan next week.

After that, I logged on and did lots of work before we had our team meeting. I took a photo of Wesley and Ethan next to each other because they are so similar, but also so not at the same time.

I then wanted to use up the last steak in the fridge and the greens I had, which were kale, broccoli and bok choy. These were greens that a bit of research told me would help with my health.

Anyway, I put them in the air fryer and I’m going to be honest.

It tasted shit.

I didn’t even finish it.

A waste of food, really.

Not every health meal is a winner, and that one can go straight in the bin of failed ideas.

After that I picked up the kids from school, and Nola came up Mount Taylor with me.

It was so nice having a little friend. We put the music on loud, and she took off.

Miss Fit.

We then went and got Arlo from daycare. In the front room there is a rocking horse toy thing that he loves, and it was so hard to get him off it.

On Thursday, Arlo had his post-ENT surgery appointment.

We had a little bit of a wait, so I got a coffee and got him a biscuit, but all he wanted to do was pick the sprinkles off.

Fair.

After I dropped him off, I went to church to watch Rocky do the liturgy. He had a speaking part, and it means so much to the kids when you go and watch those things.

On Friday it was an office day for me.

My mother-in-law looked after Arlo, and she sent me a really cute photo of him. He looked so much like Jason when he was little.

While I was at work, I had an assignment for my Human Resources certificate where I had to pretend to present to people. It was pretty funny. I made it out like I was talking and saying sorry for technical issues and everything.

Very committed to the role.

Friday evening, Jason took the kids out for dinner and present shopping because they both had birthday parties on the weekend.

I had dinner with Arlo, put him to bed, and then of course did some work.

It was so funny. Nola has taught Arlo to brush his teeth, so I gave him his toothbrush, and then he was standing in the middle of the dining area pretending to spit and making heaving noises.

Amazing what they pick up.

Since getting his grommets, he can hear and understand so much better, so I told him he had to clean it up, and he did.

Very cute.

Saturday was a nice slow start.

Nola ditched soccer again for a birthday party, so after we all chilled in our bed together, Nola and I got ready.

When I dropped her to the party, I went and walked up Mount Taylor and then went to the gym.

When we got home, it was pretty much time for her to get changed, and then she joined Rocky at a party at the pool.

It was an indoor pool, don’t worry.

And heated.

They had a blow up obstacle, which they loved. Jason took them, and I looked after Arlo.

I had a comedy show on that night with some friends. They were having dinner beforehand at a restaurant, but I ate my dinner at home and waited for Jason and the kids to tap me out before I met them there.

While they were at dinner, they weren’t looking at their phones, and I was asking them what to wear.

No one got back to me.

So I sent them a photo of me dressed up in a glitter dress and big chunky glitter heels.

When they saw the photo, they were like, “amazing, see you soon,” and then when I rocked up they were like, “wait, why did you get changed?”

Hahaha. I probably could have gotten away with the first fake outfit, so many glitter girlies!

The show was We Don’t Have Time For This, which is a podcast duo, and it was hilarious. Highly recommend their podcast: https://www.instagram.com/wedonthavetimeforthis?igsh=OGtkd3hnMTR4dGQ5&igsi=OGtkd3hnMTR4dGQ5

Honestly, one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

It was about motherhood, and I have not laughed that hard in so long. The girls had a few wines, but I just enjoyed the show knowing I had hit my calories perfectly on Saturday.

When I got home, it was time to play tooth fairy, even though Nola knows the truth.

She still puts her tooth out, and the tooth fairy only had a $20 note, so she got very lucky.

In the morning she said, “you don’t have to give me money anymore,” but I said, “I always will, my love.”

Sunday was crazy busy for us.

Nola, Arlo and I had church for Nola’s Eucharist.

Rocky had football, which I organised a lift for, and Jason had golf.

Arlo lasted about half of church before he was over it, so I ended up standing out the front with him for the rest.

After church, I thought it would be a good idea to get a car wash.

Arlo also hated that.

Even though he’s done it before, I could tell it was definitely nap time.

When we got home, it was time to relax while we waited for Arlo to nap. There were markets on down the road that I love going to, but Arlo napped through the open time.

Classic.

Jason got home from golf, and then I went to the gym and went for a walk.

I realised when I got to the hike that my headphones weren’t charged enough and were completely dead.

So it was nature’s music for this one.

Anyone else’s kids call them as soon as they go anywhere to ask how long they’ll be?

Quick stop at the shop on the way home, and I had to get myself a big jar of pickles.

One big pickle is 5 calories.

The best.

I also found a bunch of OxyShred energy drinks on sale for $2.45, so I got four. I’m usually not a fan of the premade ones, but whatever, I’ll try them.

While I was scrolling through my photos trying to find something, I found this cute photo of Wesley and I from November 2021.

Gosh, the memories.

This was when we did a photo shoot for their website, and they were marketing with a couple of the clients who had been with him for a while.

So cute.

I also found Arlo’s Crocs that finally fit, and he would not take them off.

So funny.

Now, not as big of a loss this week as I would have liked. The difference between this Sunday and last Sunday was 600g, but of course we go off the weekly average, and that was 400g down.

I’m hoping this coming week, now that my creatine has settled, my training is back, and the inflammation from getting back into the gym starts to settle, things will keep moving along.

I’ve worked out that I have approximately 21 weeks left in this STRIP phase, so I’m about a third of the way through now.

Technically, I could stop STRIP in about four weeks and I would hit my original goal of 65kg, which is around where I was when I lost all that weight with Wesley a few years ago, before getting pregnant with Arlo.

But like I’ve mentioned in my other blogs, this time I want to really see what my body is capable of.

When I got down to 65kg back then, I wasn’t a coach. I wasn’t into fitness in the way that I am now. I was learning for myself, and I thought I looked incredible.

Which I did, mind you.

But now that I have my accreditation, and I look at it from a coaching perspective, I look back at my photos and think, “damn girl, you looked good, but my god, I could have made you look even better.”

So that’s what I’m going to do with myself now.

And I can’t wait.

I want to see the muscles.

I want to see what my body looks like when I really push through the next phase properly.

Part of me wishes I did this a long time ago, but hindsight is a funny thing. I didn’t know my potential back then, and by the looks of it, I didn’t care as much as I do now. I was happy looking good in clothes and covering up the areas I wasn’t confident in.

This time, I want more than that.

I’m itching to go into CONTROL and build muscle, but I know I need to lose this excess fat first.

I cannot wait to see what my body looks like filled out with muscle instead of fat.

Now for check-in.

Week: 12

Phase: STRIP

Nutrition adherence: 7/7

Weekly average steps: 8,420

Training: 4/4 + 4 cardio sessions

Average body weight change: -400g

The things I’m most proud of this week are:

  • Making time to go on my cardio hike four times this week.

  • Meal prepping foods that are really going to support different parts of my health.

  • Enjoying myself with my soccer mum friends without ruining my nutrition adherence.

  • Not letting the slower scale drop upset me.

  • Getting all my training sessions done.

  • Taking the next steps with my health testing.

The areas I need to improve next week are:

  • Steps are getting better, but they still need to come up.

  • Actually use my walking pad now that the desk is set up, because I keep forgetting I have it.

  • Book an X-ray, chiro or osteo appointment for my back because it’s really sore.

  • Keep an eye on whether my back pain is coming from my heavy chest, sitting in my desk chair half the day, or just bad posture.
