Week 2 - Rain, Routines & Rookie Mistakes

Well, Week 2 is done and dusted.

Monday was a public holiday which sounds relaxing in theory, but solo parenting was still in full swing first thing in the morning. I sat down to eat breakfast and naturally the baby woke up immediately. Standard. 👶

Once Jason was back mid-morning, I got some work done before heading up Mount Taylor. In what can only be described as a terrible life decision, I drank a Coke Zero before I left. Halfway up the mountain I was absolutely busting to wee!!!!! The entire walk became less about fitness and more about bladder control. It was a gorgeous day though, lots of kangaroos on the path!! 🦘

And I noticed my long sleeve top was hanging off me a bit more than usual. Small win. I decided to take some flex photos for my stash to compare to later! 💪

While hiding the photos in the locked photos folder (because if anyone saw that they would be like what the fuck?) I found a photo from a year ago (just after I had Arlo) to compare it to!! I don’t think I was flexing but its still a good feeling seeing the change!

Speaking of wins, I saw my lowest weight in over two years this week, and it stayed that low all week woohoo!!! ⚖️

Normally I meal prep before work, but Tuesday I had a really busy day so there just wasn't time. Instead I ordered groceries, added a bunch of Youfoodz to the cart as emergency backup and then spent Tuesday night cooking up the same old chicken and potatoes. Not exciting, but future Casey was very grateful.

The cold and rain absolutely hammered Canberra this week. Fucking freezing.. I HATE winter.. I LOVE spring! I wish we would move somewhere warmer but that’s in the too hard basket… 😂I still trained, getting up and out was harder but I rugged up and did it!

Wednesday was HAIR DAY. 💇‍♀️

I was desperate for a trim and colour freshen-up. The best part is I only go every four months now. When I had dark hair I was in that salon every three weeks trying to keep up appearances. These days I embrace the greys. Well... some of them. There are only a few hundred. Apparently I have heaps and heaps and heaps and heaps!! My Mums side went white in their 20s so I’m doing OK for mid 30s!

After my hair I had time to go up the mountain again! On my way down I got DRENCHED! It was so weird, it was sunny going up then rained going down?! Anyway, my hood saved the hair! And I just kept thinking no excuses you need this!

Thursday morning was tragic. 😭

My Hyrox partner for Sydney in July had to pull out, and because we didn’t buy the Flex option when we registered, Hyrox basically said, “that’s unfortunate” and moved on with their lives.

Even with a medical certificate from a surgeon, they won’t allow refunds, transfers or name changes unless you bought Flex at registration.

Lesson learned.

Always buy the Flex.

I definitely had a cry about it, then did what every emotionally stable person does and walked up Mount Taylor… again.

Thursday I also finally saw a chiropractor about my lower back and neck. Why did nobody force me to do this sooner? The improvement was honestly ridiculous. I walked out feeling like a completely different person. By the time I got home I was basically ready to do cartwheels around the house. The relief was instant.

Friday I did my good deed for the week.

One of my friends had a Botox appointment and a four-month-old baby. I volunteered to walk the pram around Kingston in my lunch break while she had her appointment. That's what friends do.

On the way to the car her shoe broke and I laughed so hard I cried. Thankfully I had a spare pair in the car because apparently I'm prepared for everything???

Then Friday night was family dinner for my nephew's birthday.

I ate before we went and just grabbed a Coke Zero. I'd looked at the menu beforehand, and nothing really aligned with my goals. The funny part?

I spent all week worrying people would comment.

Nobody did. Not one person. No one gave a fuck..

Everyone else ate dinner, cake and enjoyed themselves while I happily drank my Coke Zero. Meanwhile I won a $50 meat raffle voucher and another $50 on the pokies despite having absolutely no idea what I was doing.

Beginner's luck.

Soccer and footy training both cancelled, and with the long weekend there were no games either. Honestly, it was kind of nice. For once we weren't spending the entire week driving between sporting fields.

Saturday I decided to sleep in and train later. Big mistake. The whole day felt off.

I've learned that I genuinely prefer my 4:15am starts. Once training is done, it's done. When I move it later into the day I spend hours thinking about it and stressing about fitting it in.

Biggest lesson this week: routine matters.

People think weekends are for resting or switching everything up. I tried that Saturday and failed.. So now I can say for me, weekends are just another day. I will still get up at 4:15am. I will still train. I will still follow my routine.

Turns out boring consistency works. I love writing my plans out too, helps me set my tone! I like to do it the week before too, so its ready!

My Current Routine

4:15am - Wake up, get dressed, Red Bull

4:45am - Gym

6:00am - Kids up, breakfasts, lunches, clean up

7:30am - Shower and get ready

8:00am - School and daycare drop off

8:30am - Work

12:30pm - Cardio

5:00pm - Finish work and dinner prep

Evening sports training (Jason does footy, I do soccer)

6:00pm - Dinner

7:00pm - Kids bedtime routine

8:00pm - More work

8:30pm - Bed

So, even without sports, Saturday was chaos.

Rocky has been begging to watch one of his best mates play soccer so we watched a game, it was so cute! Nola had a birthday party and sleepover at her best friends house!

We also wanted to use the Mother's Day movie voucher Rocky bought me, so I booked him and I tickets! I packed my own weighed snacks and felt very organised.

We sat down in our seats.

A lady walked over and said, "I think you're in our spots."

No worries, I thought.

I'll just check the tickets.

Turns out I booked the wrong bloody day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it was sold out for that sitting…………!

Thankfully Time Zone was next door and saved the afternoon.

Sunday was meant to be a winery date with a friend, but she pulled out. Honestly? I wasn't even upset. I'd probably have used my entire week's calories in one sitting.

Instead, I went up the mountain (I sound like a broken record, but I just LOVE it!) It was 3 degrees and you could not see a thing!

I also rebooked the movies and took both kids! It was such a good movie, I cry at anything and everything, even Rocky looked over and laughed and said, “you have a tear in your eye”!!

I also meal prepped steak and potatoes for the week ahead and made homemade LCM bars for the kids. They love my homemade snacks, so I try make different school treats every week to pack for them!

Alright, Check in time BABY!

Week: 2

Nutrition Adherence: 6/7

Training: 4/4 + 4 cardio

Average Body Weight Change: - 0.400kg (what the fucccccccccck, I thought it would be more!)

The things I’m most proud of this week are:

- Saw my lowest weight in over 2 years!!

- Increased weight over multiple exercises and hit multiple PBs.

- Didn't get tempted by dinners out or birthday cake.

- Still hit all my training even after not following my usual routine on the weekend!

The areas I need to improve next week are:

- Eat more vegetable………still……

- Be more patient with the scale!

I know logically that fat loss isn't linear, but after seeing only a 400g drop it's easy to want things to move faster. The reality is I'm doing everything right. The goal now is to keep stacking weeks together and trust the process.

Let's go!
